Fire Alarms: 4 fire alarms in as many days is too many for me.
(And other random stuff...)

This is what Laila, my roommate, and I found in the kitchen the day after our 4th fire alarm in a row. We had had 2 at 9:30am, one at 5:30am, and this last one was right around dinner time. That night, the kitchen had caution tape all over it, and smelled funny. Then when it was open again the next day, we discovered this, the reason for at least one of the alarms. The problem with their fire alarms is that they don't sound like alarms at all. Especially during the 5:30 one, I woke up wondering why Laila and I's phones were both vibrating like crazy, when really it was the funny-sounding fire alarm.

This is the stove that used to be in the kitchen. I guess it's a good thing I haven't made any plans to cook here at Caltech!

While we were outside looking at the stove, I noticed just how junky our courtyard was. I'm very glad that I don't actually have to stay here for much longer. I would be pretty upset if the place I actually lived was like this.

While they do have a jacuzzi in the courtyard, it isn't any better than the rest of the place.

I guess part of my problem is that Page House, the dorm I am in is labled as the "Frat of Caltech". It seems that someone was just trying to live up to that a little bit more by painting this on the inside wall of the courtyard. Doesn't it look so nice and flower-y on the outside? The building that you can see in the background is the school bookstore. I don't understand how such a great school would allow their students to create such a bad environment to live in, especially so close to the rest of campus where anyone can see it.

One thing that is kind of cool about their dorms is that they are allowed to paint the walls however they like. Some of the paintings are crude, and others are just weird, but I really liked this one, that I pass by on my way to my room.

This is my second favorite wall painting. It takes up the whole wall between my room and the bathroom.

Right by the side door, someone added a Picasso.

As everyone should know by now, I really like the turtle pond on campus, and I've loved frogs forever. What could be better than two enormous frogs in the turtle pond?!? I think the darker one is the same one that I saw on my way home from dinner a few weeks ago, but I didn't have my camera with me. I was looking in this pond to see if I could find a new, different kind of turtle that was pointed out to me. There are one or two turtles here that are flat, and look nothing like all the others. I saw one of them once, but didn't find them this time. Instead I found these two!
